National Tenants Council
A rally organised by National Tenants Council (NTC) was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Saturday demanding proper implementation of house rent control act. In the programme the speakers said house owners of the city increase the house rent whimsically due to the ineffective of the house rent control act. They called upon the government and other authority concerned to adopt necessary measures for proper implementation of house rent control act for the greater interest of tenants in the city. General Secretary of the council Mir Mofazzal Hossain Mostak conducted the rally. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of Biplobi Workers Party Saiful Haque, General Secretary of Samajtantrik Majdur Party Dr Shamsul Alam, General Secretary of Swadhinata Party AAM Faiz Hossain, Joint Secretary of the organisation Shahidul Islam and General Secretary of Bharatia Federation Baharane Sultan Bahar. The speakers called upon all tenants of the city to be united against the whimsical attitude of the house owners. President of the council Moktar Hossain Khan presided over the event.  
Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Chiristian Oikya Parishad
Tri-ennial conference of Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Chiristian Oikya Parishad (BHBCP) organised by the parishad was held at the Institute of Engineering, Bangladesh (IEB) in the city on the 7th instant. In the programme Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu urged the nation to boycott the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its chief Begum Khaleda Zia from the politics for making the country free from communalism. “The BNP and its chief Begum Zia have taken the side of militant group and the war crimes, so the people should leave BNP and its chief from the politics for betterment of the country,” he added. Criticizing the activities of the then military government who assumed power after the assassination of Bangabandhu, the minister said various types of fundamentalism and the evil force of communalism have emerged in the country due to amendment of the constitution repeatedly by the military autocrats. BHBCP’s General Secretary Rana Das Gupta gave the welcome address. The function was also addressed, among others, by Jatiya Party Vice-Chairman GM Quader and leaders of the parishad. BHBCP’s executive committee President Hew Bhut Gomes presided over the event.
