Bangladesh Under-21 Hockey team became unbeaten champions of the Junior AHF Cup Hockey Qualifiers Tournament when they thrashed Oman Under-21 Hockey team by four goals to nil at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.
With the day’s result, Bangladesh earned a rare honour of scoring 35 goals without conceding any goal in five matches after beating Chinese Taipei 7-0, Thailand 10-0, Oman 7-0 and Sri Lanka 7-0 in group matches.
However, both champions Bangladesh and runners-up Oman qualified for the next year’s final round to be held in Malaysia as the finalists of the just-concluded Men’s Junior AHF Cup Qualifiers.
The victorious team led the first half 2-0.
Khorshedur of Bangladesh put his team ahead using a penalty corner of Milon in the 15th minute of the play.
Ashraful of Bangladesh made it 2-0 utilizing a short pass of Khorshedur in the danger zone of Oman in the 23rd minute game.
Khorshedur increased the tally into 3-0 capitalizing a penalty corner of Milon in the 37th minute of the clash.
Sarwar sealed the fate of the match using a pass of Mainul in the 50th minute of the match.
Bangladesh could increase the margin but Mainul’s hit bounced back from the post in the 58th minute of the play.
Oman got the easiest chance in the 64th minute of the clash. Shafi of Oman got the ball in the Bangladesh’s D-box from a pass of his teammate Anwar which came on his way from a penalty corner of Faisal but Shafi’s hit was saved by Khorshedur from the goal line.
Earlier, in a place-deciding match, Chinese Taipei finished 3rd in the five-team fray beating Sri Lanka 6-2 at the same venue on Sunday morning.
