Ban on rice export extended for another yr

The government has extended a ban on rice export for one more year in order to meet emergency needs and to keep the market price stable, a commerce ministry source said.
The ban will be effective from today. Besides the export ban, the government has also made a plan to import rice, which is common food item of the people.The government has extended the ban under the Export-Import Control Act-1950 to increase internal supply, control market price and meet emergency needs, another source of the ministry said.
The ban will be effective from July 1 this year and remain in force till June 30 next year as the earlier ban on rice export ends today (June 30).
During the period, traders across the country will not be able to export any kind of rice without fragrant one. The traders also have to take permission from the commerce ministry in case of fragrant rice export providing all the necessary information.
