Bail plea of cop in gold recovery case rejected

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday rejected a bail petition in the gold recovery case, submitted on behalf of Police Constable Wahidul Islam of Rampura Police Station in the capital.
Dhaka’s Addditional CMM Meher Nigar Suchona passed the order in a case filed against five persons, including Constable Wahid, on April 8. Other accused persons are Rampura Police Station SI Manjurul Islam, Constabe Akash Chowdhuty, Police Source Mahfuz Alam Roni, and Sajib Sikder.
Other four accused are also behind the bar and DB Police arrested them earlier on April 1. Police recovered 149 gold bars from their possessions.
The story is that on March 13, Sub-Inspector Manjurul Islam of Rampura Police Station stopped a private car in the Rampura Bank Colony Balur Math area. Later, they recovered 70 golden bars from the car, although there were 235 gold bars.
The dishonest members of police in connivance with others, allegedly misappropriated the remaining gold bars. However, at one stage, of the five accused, four admitted of stealing 165 gold bars out of 235 recovered from the car.
