Staff Reporter :
The metropolitan sessions judge of Dhaka yesterday set March 23 to hear the bail pleas for BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, party’s standing committee member Mirza Abbas and city committee leader Abdus Salam.
The BNP leaders are now detained in jail custody as a metropolitan magistrate on March 16 sent them to jail rejecting their bail prayers.
Alamgir and his party colleague Abbas were accused in several criminal cases including arson in a passenger bus at Paribagh square in the city on January 3. Salam was accused in another criminal case.
Earlier, the BNP leaders obtained eight weeks’ anticipatory bail from the High Court, but later the Appellate Division turned down the High Court decision.
In line with the Appellate Division order, BNP Leaders surrendered before the metropolitan magistrate’s court and sought bail, but their bail prayers were rejected.
