Litchi of Tk 15 crore likely to be sold

Litchi of Mangalbaria village in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj district has a tradition of about 200 years. This village is now known as the village of litchi across the country.
According to sources, a man named Mangal Shah of the area has brought the Litchi saplings from somewhere in India and planted them in this backyard.
Farmers have hope to harvest bumper production of litchi this season in Mangalbaria village.
Some litchi growers said that due to good weather, the yield of litchi has improved and farmers are expecting to earn of Tk 12 to 15 crore from 6,000-7,000 litchi trees in Pakundia ‘s Mangalbaria village alone.
Litchi trees are grown in every yard of every house in the village, pond and farm isle. Now wherever one looks, there is only litchi and litchi.
Last Monday, some local journalists visited Mangalbaria village and saw litchi hanging in the trees. Every house is full of festive mood and relatives. Chairs have been placed in front of the house. People who have come from far and wide to buy litchi, including the owner of the litchi tree, are sitting there talking. Many are picking litchi from the trees. Some people are spreading 50 or 100 litchi bundles by spreading the carpet.
Talking to some residents of the area, it is learned that although the price is a bit higher, the demand for litchi in this area is higher than other areas. This litchi has a kind of aroma. The amount of shell is more as the beech is smaller. Larger in size. In addition, it has eye-catching colors.
Litchi farmer Aminul Islam said, there are 50 to 60 litchi trees in my garden
and benefits financially from this garden.
Md. Farid Uddin, a local resident, said that litchi reached the expatriates across the country’s borders to expatriates in Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia and London.
When contacted Deputy Director, Department of Agricultural Extension. (DAE) in Kishoreganj Abdus Sattar told the New Nation that this season , on the advice of the agriculture department, the litchi growers got bumper yields as they treated the trees with timely use of medicines. Due to the right price and higher profit, the farmers of the area are also interested in litchi cultivation. As a result, the number of litchi trees in the area is increasing day by day”.
