Bagerhat Society arranged ‘mejban’ for Pahela Baishakh

Bagerthat Development Society [BDS] celebrated Pahela Baishakh arranging an exceptional ‘mejban’ [a traditional feast] at the Supreme Court Bar Association [SCBA] canteen in the city on Tuesday.
The lawyers, social workers, physicians, educationists, journalists, businessmen and rights activists, joined a view-exchange meeting on the occasion at SCBA auditorium chaired by BDS President Barrister Mohammad Zakir Hossain.
The meeting was attended, among others, by journalist Syed Tosaraf Ali, senior Advocate Atiur Rahman, Professor Dr SM Abu Jafar, Engineer Tapas Kumar Paul, Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam, businessmen MA Salam and Sheikh Faridul Islam, Advocate Humayun Kabir Bulbul and Advocate Mujahidul Islam.
The meeting was conducted by general secretary of BDS Advocate Taskin Hossain.
During the discussion, the speakers laid emphasis on the development of Bagerhat district and expressed their dismay at the stoppage of construction work of the local airport.
The speakers also criticized government for its ignorance and wrong policy about the protection of world heritage Sundarbans. They also blamed the bureaucratic tangle for the present situation.  
General Secretary of SCBA Barrister Mahabub Uddin Khokan a guest of honour welcomed the initiatives of BDS.
Later, a colourful cultural function was held where eminent singers and artists took part.
