Baby Moudud passes away

UNB, Dhaka :Eminent journalist and former Member of Parliament Baby Moudud died at a city hospital on Friday. She was 66.Baby Moudud who had been suffering from cancer breathed her last at the city’s United Hospital at around 3 pm.She is survived by two sons and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn her death.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of eminent journalist and former MP Baby Moudud.In a condolence message, the Prime Minister recalled Baby Moudud’s invaluable contributions to journalism and politics, saying, “Her death is an irreparable loss to the nation.”President Abdul Hamid, in another condolence message, also expressed deep shock at the death of Baby Moudud.In his condolence message, the President said Baby Moudud was an honest and brave journalist. “At her death, the nation has lost a fearless journalist… the loss is irreparable.”Born in Kolkata in 1948, Baby Moudud obtained a postgraduate degree in Bangla literature from Dhaka University in 1971.Baby Moudud, daughter of Abdul Moudud who was a justice, was number three among six brothers and three sisters.She contributed to different fields of journalism during her long professional career in different media houses, including Daily Sangbad, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and bdnews24.com.She joined politics as a member of Chhatra Union during her student life at Dhaka University before the Liberation War.She was elected MP from Awami League to a reserved seat for women in the 9th parliament.
