Aug 21 grenade attack anniv observed in Ctg demanding end of trial

Different political parties and socio-cultural organisations on Thursday recalled the 10th anniversary of the grisly August 21 grenade attack on Awami League rally with day-long programmes.
Addressing a series of discussion meetings the speakers paid rich tributes to the memories of those who were killed in the attack and called for proper punishment to the perpetrators.
The speakers said genocide in 1971, assassination of the father of the nation Bangabandhu and his family members in 1975 and August 21 grenade attack in 2004 are identical incidents and a vested quarter is mastermind of such dreadful design.
The speakers also said the link of the main opposition BNP to the carnage has already been proved in the supplementary investigation into the incident.
“The arrested members of the militant outfits and intelligence agency revealed the names of BNP high ups and so the opposition leader Khaleda Zia can not deny her responsibility as the then head of the government” they added.
The city became the city of processions as different socio-cultural and political parties organized several mourning rallies carrying black banners with black badges to pay homage to the victims of August 21.
Chittagong city, north and south district units of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its various front organizations, different socio-cultural organizations, trade unions and professional bodies organized several programmes to observe the black day.
Hoisting black flags, wearing black badges, Khatme Quran, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings, mourning processions included the day’s programmes.
Chittagong city AL organized a discussion meeting at Muslim Institute Hall with its president and former city mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the chair.
Information Advisor to the Prime Minister Iqbal Subhan Chowdhury, former member of Law Commission Prof Dr Shah Alam, Chittagong city AL general secretary (GS) AZM Nasir Uddin, AL leaders- Belayet Hossain, M A Rashid and advocate Iftker Saimul Chowdhury, among others, addressed the function.
Chittagong north and south district chapters of AL have observed the day at upazila and union levels that included discussion meeting and iftar mahfil.
Bangladesh Awami Juba League and Sechhasebak League brought out a big mourning procession from new market area which paraded some important roads.
To mark the day, Doa, Milad Mahfil and special prayers were also held at different mosques and other places of worships in the city seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of those who were assassinated on August 21.
Chittagong south district AL also held a discussion meeting this morning at its Andarkilla office with its president Muslem Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
Former Member of Parliament Hasina Mannan, Chittagong south district AL GS Mofizur Rahman, AL leaders- Abul Kalam Chowdhury and Motaharul Islam Chowdhury, among others, took part in the discussion.
Besides, Chittagong north district AL brought out a mourning procession led by it President Nurul Alam Chowdhurya and GS MA Slalam from its Dost Building office premises.
The procession concluded at the same venue after parading different city streets.
