Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID) in Chittagong foiled an attempt to evade govt tax of Tk 81 lakh through releasing false declared motor vehicles .
A Dhaka – based importer named Parents Enterprise imported special purpose motor vehicles declaring mobile lifting crane from Italy at a cost of Tk.3 crores aimed at tax free facilities against mobile crane but the import duty and other taxes on special vehicles comes at Tk.81 lakh. After arrival of the consignment at Chittagong port, the C&F agent of the importer Takin Trade Syndicate submit bill of entry before the customs on October 22 last se aimed at releasing the false declared motor vehicles. Sensing the news of tax evading, CIID stopped delivery of the consignment on October 30 last.
After physical inventory of the consignment four crane fitted transport trucks were detected . Assistant Director of CIID ,Chittagong office Mahmud told that as per declaration of the importer, import duty, taxes comes to Tk 2.23 lakh whereas after assessment on imported motor vehicles it stands at Tk.65 lakh and the penalty impose Tk 16 lakh for misdeclaration .
After payment of assessed tax including penalty amounting to Tk.81 lakh 38 thousand to govt treasury , CIID issued release order of the consignment, customs sources said.
