A gang of miscreants on Saturday damaged BNP’s candidate Manzur Elahi’s election camp at Shibpur of Norshingdi. They fired rampantly during the attack injuring a baby girl named Mahia (10). At least 10 other people were injured.
Injured Mahia is the daughter of Shibpur’s late Jalal Mia and a student of class II of Shibpur’s Darul Ulum Islamia Mahila Madrasha.
The incident occurred at Diman market near the
Shibpur College gate on Saturday afternoon. The miscreants vandalized the election camp, six Prado Zeeps and 20 motorcycles. Police reached the spot after getting information and restored law and order..
Police source said, Manzur Elahi, BNP candidate for Norsingdi-3 Constituency inaugurated his election camp near the college gate. After inauguration, he was addressing the audience. Suddenly four microbuses with at least 25-30 miscreants on board arrived at the spot and attacked them with guns.
Shivpur’s Darul Ulum Islamia Mahila Madrasha’s Assistant Teacher Taslim Uddin said, Mahia was on the veranda when a bullet hit her.
She was sent to Narshingdi General Hospital as her condition deteriorated. A witness said, we were standing on the roadside, all on a sudden, a group of armed men started firing and damaged cars and motorcycles.
BNP candidate Manzur Elahi said that he was going to Masimpur Union for election campaigning.
