Laid to rest at Bagerhat: ASI Ibrahim`s killers identified, says IGP

Joynal Abedin Khan :The slain Ibrahim Hossain Mollah, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Darus Salam Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), was laid to eternal rest in their family graveyard under Kachua Upazila of Bagerhat district on Friday night.The second Namaz-e-Janaza of the police official was held at his Taltala village around 10:00pm, attended by a large number of people, said Sheikh Shamsher Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kachua Police Station.Earlier at noon, his first Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital where Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque and other police personnel joined. The postmortem of the body was conducted at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the morning. The IGP said criminals in connection with the murder have been identified and they will be arrested anytime.We suspected that the murder might have been committed by the Islamist groups, the police boss said.”Police are analyzing the information of killers’ associate Masud Rana who is now under police custody,” the IGP said.The detectives were asked to arrest the killers in a short time, he said. Masud Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Mirpur Division), said that we got necessary information, including name and other identities, to arrest the two other killers. “We would not like to disclose the information of Masud in the shake of investigation,” the police official said. On Thursday night, miscreants have stabbed to death ASI Ibrahim, 40, in the city’s Gabtali area. He was the son of Sattar Mollah, hailing from Taltala village in Bagerhat.”Ibrahim was on duty at a check-post set up near Parbata Cinema Hall at Gabtali at night. When three suspicious-looking pedestrians were passing the check-post around 9:00pm, on-duty policemen signaled them to stop. As Ibrahim was going to check a bag being carried by them, one of the men stabbed him and ran away with the bag,” said Faruqul Alam, Inspector (Investigation) of Darus Salam Police Station.Other policemen chased and caught one suspect, who said his name was Masudur Rana. Police, however, could not give any detail about what was in the bag. A police source said the perpetrators might have been from Bogra. Ibrahim had two stab wounds on his chest and abdomen, said Rahat Nazma, on-duty doctor at Suhrawardy Hospital.
