Quality fish fry for enhancing fish production stressed

Experts at a daylong training course stressed for production, proper preservation and distribution of quality fish fry for enhancing annual fish production in the country.
They said adoption of the latest technologies using quality fish fry would increase fish production to meet protein demand of the growing population. It will also improve the socioeconomic condition of the fish farmers, fishermen and rural people.
They were addressing the course on fingerling production and distribution by the Fisheries Department for fish fry traders and hatchery owners at upazila parishad auditorium in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Wednesday.
The course was organised under the Integrated Agricultural Productivity Project (IAPP) for increasing fish production through ensuring proper exploration of prevailing prospect in the sector to bring economic self-reliance to thousands of farmers.
District Fisheries Officer of Lalmonirhat Dr Abul Hasnat attended the occasion as the chief guest with Hatibandha Upazila Fisheries Officer Anguri Begum in the chair.
Hatibandha upazila chairman Liyakat Hossain Bachchu, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbubur Rahman and Project Supervisor of the IAPP Raju Hossain addressed the course as special guests.
The speakers said the national fish production could be increased through ensuring proper exploration of prevailing prospect in the sector to bring economic self-reliance to thousands of farmers.
The experts indentified the prevailing problems like inadequacy of quality broods, quality hormone, breeding facilities, trained human resources, hatchery management knowledge and suggested the way-outs for enhancing fish production.
