Army, Navy’s feats in 74th World long distance swimming meet

Bangladesh won all the medals 19 kilometre event of in the 74th World Long-Distance Swimming Competition held in West Bengal Murshidabad’s Bhagirothi River on Sunday.
An ISPR press release on Monday said, Bangladesh swimmers from Bangladesh Army, Navy won the all the medals in 19 kilometer event. Faisal Ahmed of Bangladesh Army won the gold medal taking time of 2 hours and 12 minutes to cross Murshidabad’s Ziaganj to Bohrampur.
Bangladesh Navy swimmer Palash Chowdhury captured the silver medal taking 2 hours and 16 minutes, and the third spot was taken by Bangladesh Army’s Jewel with the timing of 2 hours and 16 minutes.
In the women’s 19 kilometer swimming race, Bangladesh Navy swimmer Najma Khatun secured second place with the timing of 2 hours 23 minutes, Navy’s Sonia Akhtar Tumpa came out 4th and Army’s Naima Akhtar got 9th position.
Apart from this, Navy’s Ashikur Rahman came out 4th and Army’s Asif Rana bagged 9th place in the men’s 81 kilometer event.
A 20-member delegation from Bangladesh participated in the traditional competition held at Murshidabad in West Bengal on 27 August. A total of 107 swimmers from India, Sweden, Spain and Thailand participated in this competition.
