The annual growth rate of the country’ s fish production was 5.88 percent in the last five years, Fisheries and Livestock Minister told Parliament on Monday.
The fish production has increased by 33.04 percent in the last six years, Mohammed Sayedul Haque said, answering a scripted question from Moazzem Hossain Ratan (Sunamganj-1).
Replying to a starred question of Kazi Nabil Ahmed (Jessore-3), the minister said that 18 development projects are being implemented across the country during the current fiscal (2014-15) to increase fish production.
To implement the projects, Tk 344.79 crore has been allocated in the current fiscal, he added.
In reply to a starred question from Amena Ahmed (Women Seat-43), Sayedul Haque said Bangladesh exports frozen shrimp and other fishes to various countries.
The countries include USA, Canada, UK, Russia, Netherlands, France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Portugal, China, Japan, Saudi Araba, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, he informed the House.
