UNB, Dhaka :
Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Haq on Wednesday promised to build a beautiful safe city by making its footpaths free from illegal occupants and removing bad odour by June next.
“A plan has been worked out, and we’ll implement it by June next,” he said.
The DNCC mayor spelled out the plan at a views-exchange meeting with the residents from Mohammadpur, Adabar and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas at Suchona Community Centre near Mohammadpur Krishi Market in the city.
Annisul said an initiative has been taken to install 1,000 high-powered close circuit cameras at different important points from Tongi Bridge to Sonargaon crossing road and different strategic points in Gulshan, Baridhara, Banani, Niketan, Hatirjheel and other areas under the DNCC for checking criminal activities.
“We’ve already set up 100 CC cameras and installations of remaining ones will be completed by September. I think all kinds of terrorist and militant activities will come down with the installation of CC cameras,” he added.
Besides, 72 mid-transfer stations of 3000-4000-6000 square feet in size will be set up in the 36 wards of the NCC under secondary waste management project by March next.
Of them, construction of 40 mid-transfer stations, including 14 on city corporation lands, have already been completed, while the remaining ones will be finished by March next, he said adding that the initiative will help remove around 70-75 percent garbage from the city a day eliminating stinking.
