Art camp for underprivileged children held in Barishal city

A day long art-camp for children deprived from opportunity and needed special care held at Jibanananda Memorial Auditorium of the city on Wednesday. Bangladesh Shishu Academy Barisal district unit arranged the programme inaugurated by Habibur Rahman, deputy commissioner Barishal. Pankaj Roy Chowdhury, district children affairs officer, gave welcome address of the programme participated by 110 children from different institutions and organizations. Avijit Chowdhury and six other artists directed the camp which was fifth in the country and first in Barisal. The camp was arranged for the children with special needs, to ensure the recognition of their dignity, to promote their self- reliance, and to facilitate their active participation in the community, the organizers said.

Journalist seriously injured in road accident at Bhangura

Md Masud Rana,Manobjamin correspondent of Bhangura Upazila and Assistant Editor of Weekly Onabil Sangbad was seriously injured in truck collision on Tuesday night. Police said a truck hit him while crossing the Bailey Bridge in Bhamura Municipality (truck no. Metro-11-2913). He was admitted to Bhangura Upazila Health Complex at night. He was wounded in several parts of his body after his accident. In this connection, the truck driver Rantu (35) and Helper Nishan (21) were arrested and sent to Pabna Jail on Wednesday and the truck was kept in police custody. OC (Investigation) Siddiqul Islam Asif said the truck driver and helper were detained and they are drug-addicted.

Rotary Club distributed educational equipment

United States Trumbull Rotary Club, AZHN Foundation and Dhaka Cosmopolitan Rotary distributed school bags, dictionary and other educational equipment among the 200 students of Naopara Public School of Shariatpur district recently. Club First Lady Dr Farhana Haque Shampa, Engineer Mosbah Alim, Headmaster Yusuf Ali distributed educational and medical equipment to the students. Medical equipment were provided from the Trumbull Rotary for Cosmopolitan Boat Ambulance Project. This ambulance was provided for emergency treatment of the river side poor people of Naria under Sharitpur.

11 detained at Kalaroa border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 11 people, including women and children, for illegally entering Bangladesh inside India’s Kolaroa border on Satkhira onn Thursday evening. They were detained from the 9th floor of Main Pillar 13/3 S of Vadiyali Border of the upazila. The arrestees were identified as Rokeya Khatun, 30, wife of Sahabuddin of Charpurpadia village, and son Nur-Mohammad (12), two daughters Amena (03) and Saheda Khatun (06), wife of late Milk Mia of Sabargaon village of Samejnagar district (28) Firozha Khatun, 30, wife of Kismat Ali of Karkalakata village under the upazila, and two sons of Israfil (12) and Salam (08), wife of Tarkul Islam, Shamsunnahar Begum (25), and two sons Le Miraj (11) and Minhajul isarama (06). Humayun Kabir, a sub-inspector of Madura Bijibi camp on the border of the upazila, said that on Thursday, the BGB members were patrolling anti-smuggling in the border. At that time they were detained when those people entered India illegally from India. After the detainees could not show any valid papers, they were told to explain them in Satkhira Jatiya and Care.
