Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was sidelined for two weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during a warm-up session of his Dhaka Premier League (DPL) team Shinepukur Cricket Club.
He suffered a blow on the thumb of the left leg while facing a yorker during a batting practice and as a consequence he missed Shinepukur’s last group match against Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity.
His injury came to a blow for Bangladesh ahead of the selection of World Cup team even though the BCB medical team was hopeful of his timely recovery.
The ‘Cutter Master’ as he is adorably called, was going through an X-ray, immediate after being injured but it found nothing serious, said BCB chief physician Dr. Devashis Chowdhury.
“We went through an X-ray of his injured ankle but found nothing to be worried,” Devashis Chowdhury said here on Thursday.
“Everything is fine as per the report. But we want to go slowly and we suggested him to be in rest for two weeks,” he added.
Mustafizur returned to competitive cricket after the New Zealand series with a DPL game against Gazi Group cricketers, a match that also marked his return to country’s premier cricket tournament after four years.
He was in sensational form, having taking 3-23 in 6.5 overs despite his side’s 21-run defeat through D/L method.
“Since the World Cup is not too far, we need to take precautionary measures with Mustafizur’s injury,” Devashis said.
But he refused to make comment on whether Mustafizur could be the part of Bangladesh team during their Tri-nation series in Ireland, a tournament that is being seen as the perfect preparation campaign of the Tigers ahead of the World. Hosts Ireland and West Indies are the other two teams in the tournament.
Mustafizur last suffered an injury while playing for Mumbai Indians in the last season of Indian Premier League (IPL). The injury forced the Fizz missing the three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan, and after which, he was also sidelined during the away Test series against the West Indies last year.
