The High Court has asked Udayan Higher Secondary School and College what action it has taken against the teacher who allegedly tortured an eighth grader.
The principal will submit a report in 30 days
from the receipt of the court order. The vacation bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Selim issued an order and a suo moto rule to this effect on Wednesday following a newspaper report on the alleged torture.
The court also asked the principal to ensure that the student, Jamiul Islam Nadim of the institution’s Kakatua Section, can attend classes without any obstruction. The order came after two lawyers Ruhul Kuddus Kajal and Abu Khaled Al-Mamun had drawn court attention to a report published in a daily on Tuesday on the torture.
Kajal said the bench in the rule asked why it would not order the respondents to take action against the teacher following investigation.
