Madrasa fined Tk 78 lakh: Allegation of cutting hill in Chattogram

A director of Talimul Quran Madrasa has been fined with Tk. 78 lakh by the environment department for cutting down hills. The fine was announced in a letter signed by Rubina Ferdous, director of the department. Mia Mahmudul Haque, deputy director of the department’s Chattogram metropolis chapter, told media in this regard that the accused was directed to appear at the hearing more than once after finding the truth of the allegation of cutting down the hill. But he did not appear.
As a result, in the interest of environmental protection, according to section 8 of the Bangladesh Environmental Protection Act, 1995 (amended 2010), a fine of Tk. 78 has been imposed on the environmental damage. He said the fine has been directed to be paid by April 15. Besides, the accused has been given three months time to restore the cut hills. Otherwise legal action will be taken against the accused.
