All preparations have been taken to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali new year.
Different socio-cultural organisations, including district administration, have chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.
The law enforcement agencies have taken extensive security measures in the city and district for celebration of the day in cheerful and festive mood.
The authorities of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) police took decision to deploy 3,050 police personnel
for smooth celebration of Pahela Baishakh in the city, additional police commissioner Amena Begum told journalists in a press conference at CMP commissioner’s conference room today.
She said they would deploy 3,050 police personnel at 92 points and set up 32 check posts at different strategic places in the city.
All entry and exit points of the city are being monitored round-the-clock by setting up close circuit cameras, she added.
Meanwhile, over 1,800 police personnel will be deployed by the authority of Chattogram district police for smooth celebration of Pahela Baishakh at all 15 upazila of the district, said Nur-e-Alam Mina, superintendent of district police. RAB will also deploy over 250 personnel in different strategic areas in Chattogram city and district to maintain law and order, RAB sources added.
RAB personnel will be deployed in close proximity of the check-posts and they will extend security assistance to police, besides protecting all key point installations (KPIs) in and around the city.
Special security measures will be taken especially at Boishakhi Mela venues in DC Hill, CRB area, Shilpakala Academy, Foy’s Lake, Patenga Sea Beach, Chattogram Zoo, Swadhinata Park, Chittagong Port, Naval Museum and Shishu Park.
A ‘Mongol Shovajatra’ organised by district administration will be brought out in the city on day to be participated by people from all walks of life.
Boisabi Utsab begins in Rangamati
Boisabi Utsab, the biggest traditional festival of tribal people, began in Rangamati through floating flowers in the Kaptai Lake at Chakma Rajbari ghat here early Thursday.
The first day of the festival is called ‘Phulbijhu’, while the second day ‘Mulbijhu’ and the third day also the first day of the Bangla New Year the ‘Gojyapojya Din’.
Prokriti Ranjan Khisha, president of Adibashi Forum, inaugurated the festival through floating flowers in Kaptai lake.
Besides, the people of Tripura community floated flowers at Garjantoli ghat offering to Ganges goddesses.
Former State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry, Dipankar Talukder MP was present at the festival.
The word Boisabi is a combination of the Bengali acronyms for various indigenous festivals like Boishuk for the Tripura community people, Sangrai of the Marma community, and Bizu for the Chakma community.
On the first day of the festival, people float flowers in rivers or spring water and take bath seeking divine blessings for their peace and prosperity.
