An activist of local unit Awami League was found dead near a fishing enclosure at Pabla in Arongghata upazila on Monday.
Quoting local people, police said Mahidul Islam Band, 45, an activist of Doulatpur upazila unit Awami League and a resident of Deyana area in the city went to his fishing
enclosure at Pabla on Sunday evening and did not return home. Local people spotted the body of Mahidul, with his throat slit, near the fishing enclosure around 8am and informed police.
On information, police recovered the throat-slit body of Mahidul and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. The body bore several injury marks, said Ruhul Amin, sub-inspector of Doulatpur Police Station. Nasim Khan, officer-in-charge of Arongghata Police Station, said Mahidul had an enmity with one group over the fish enclosure and he might have been killed over the issue. However, the reason behind the killing could not be ascertained immediately, he said.
