A local Awami League (AL) leader was shot at in front of his own residence in the Debendranath Das Lane in the city’s Sutrapur area on Tuesday night. The victim has been identified as Hazi Mohammad Sayedur Rahman alias Commissioner Sayeed, 60, General Secretary of Sutrapur Thana Awami League Unit and former commissioner of Ward-79 (Current-43). He had been shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) from the Mitford Hospital, police said. Quoting the witnesses, the DMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Wari Circle) Mostaque Ahmed said that a gang of four to five unidentified armed miscreants shot at Sayeed in front of his residence in Debendranath Das Lane around 10:45pm. He was returning home by his motorcycle. The miscreants managed to flee away from the spot by two motorbikes.
The DMCH’s Emergency Unit’s Resident Surgeon Riaz Morshed said that Sayeed received bullets in his stomach, back and right arm. He is now out of danger after successfull operation.
Sutrapur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalilur Rahman Patwari said that four to five miscreants riding on motorcycles shot at him and left the spot instantly.
Police got neither any clue nor arrested anybody in this connection, said the OC.
