Price of vegetables slightly low: Fishes, chickens dear as before

Prices of vegetables slightly come down but those of fishes and local chickens went up in the city’s kitchen markets on Friday. The price of different varieties of rice and wheat, however, remained stable.
Brinjal was selling at Tk 50 to 100 per kg based on quality and size, Potato was selling at Tk24 to Tk26, bitter gourd at Tk 60, cucumber at Tk 50 to 60, okra at Tk 40 to 50, papaya at Tk 35, carrot at Tk 80, tomato at Tk 90 to 100, snake gourd at Tk50, french at Tk 60, radish at Tk 50, cauliflower at Tk40 to 50 per piece, cabbage at Tk40, parbal at Tk50 to 55, teasel gourd at Tk 60 to 70, pumpkin medium size at Tk 50 to 60, gourd at Tk40 to 50, ash gourd at Tk35 to 40 based on size, coriander leaves at Tk 400 per kg, green chilli at Tk80 to 100, capsicum (red) at Tk650 kg and capsicum (green) at Tk300 to 450.
Imported garlic was selling at Tk 90 and local product at Tk 80. Imported ginger was selling at Tk 260 and local one at Tk200 in the city markets.
In most of the city’s kitchen markets, local onion was selling at Tk 45, while imported onion (India) at Tk 43 per kg and lentil at Tk 110.
A 5-kg Rupchanda brand canned soybean oil was selling at Tk 530 and Teer brand at Tk 530.
Prices of different varieties of rice remained unchanged. Coarse rice was selling between Tk 34 and Tk 35 a kg, nazirshail at Tk 49-56, pyjam at Tk 34, kataribhogh at Tk 75 and Minicate at Tk 52-54.
Fish was dear on Friday. Mostafa Sardar, a trader of the city’s Khilgaon Bazar, told The New Nation that the supply of fishes was insufficient which pushed the price higher.
At Karwan Bazar fish market on Saturday, it was found that big size of hilsha was selling at Tk 1200 per piece while a middle size one at Tk 600 and small one at Tk 300. A big size of pangas fish was selling at Tk 200 per kg while a small size at Tk 140, climbing fish at Tk 400-600, ruhit (small) at Tk 300-400 and big-sized ruhi at Tk 400.While small varieties of fishes like small fry was sold at Tk 300, mola at Tk 300, and kachachi at Tk 260.
Egg was sold at Tk 30 per hali (four pieces) and sugar in packed at Tk 50 a kg.
Demand increases; prices of local chickens have gone up to the dismay of buyers. A piece of medium size local chicken was sold at Tk 240 while a big siz chicken at Tk 370-400 on Friday. On the other hand, boiler chickens were selling at Tk 160 per kg.
The price of crushed spices remained unchanged. Turmeric was selling at Tk 300 a kg and coriander seeds (dhania) powder at Tk 120.
Per kg of beef was selling at Tk 280 to Tk300 and red meat at Tk 400-500 only.
