Staff Reporter :The dejected leaders and workers of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the BNP, on Saturday vandalised the party central office and at one stage chased BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. They also locked the city office for several hours, demanding immediate dissolution of the new committee of the JCD.The JCD men have been continuing their demonstration against the new committee since its declaration. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Tuesday night approved a 201-member partial committee with Rajib Ahsan as president and Akramul Hasan as general secretary.Like the previous day, the unhappy JCD leaders and their followers gathered in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday morning. They chanted slogans against the committee. They also chanted slogans against BNP’s student affairs secretary Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie and former JCD president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku for “influencing to form a pocket committee”. They set the effigies of the two leaders on fire. They also tore down the portraits of their current president and general secretary.During their demonstration, the JCD men locked the office at noon. At the time they also chased Mirza Fakhrul at the gate of the office. Other BNP leaders protected Mirza Fakhrul from the wrath of agitated JCD leaders and activists.Additional police were employed in front of the Nayapaltan office to avoid any untoward situation.Meanwhile, the unhappy JCD men said that they would continue their demonstration until Khaleda Zia takes any measure to fulfil their demand. They would take position in front of the Nayapaltan office again today (Sunday) from 10:00 am.Former JCD organising secretary Anisur Rahman Talukdar Khokon, who is also one of the leaders of the present anti-committee movement, said that the committee is illegal. The committee has to be cancelled without delay. The demonstration will be continued until the ‘illegal’ committee is cancelled, he said.
