The admission into the colleges’ intermediate course starts from today (Saturday) with 9,60,000 eligible students. The normal admission process will conclude on June 22.
About 3,50,000 students, who are on the waiting list, will have to wait until the admission of the first batch of students is completed on June 20.
Even some GPA-5 holders will not be able to get themselves admitted into the colleges situated in Dhaka City, in particular, for admission due to seat crisis.
A total of 109,761 students scored GPA-5 in this year’s Secondary School Certificate examinations.
The seats of the reputed colleges are not sufficient to accomodate all the GPA-5 holders. In view of this, many good result holders will have no second option than going to the comparatively less reputed colleges, the Education Ministry sources said.
Senior System Analyst of Dhaka Education Board Monjurul Islam told The New Nation on Friday that the GPA-5 holders applied for admission in the reputed colleges situated in the capital city as well as in other cities. The ministry prepared the list as per their formula for admission. As a result a good number of students, even some GPA-5 holders, will not get chance in the reputed college, he said.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that the public and private colleges could accommodate 2.11 million students whereas 14,52,605 students passed the SSC and the equivalent examinations in 2016. That means around 700,000 seats will still be vacant, he said.
“Everyone might not get into their preferred colleges, but no one will be denied admission on the plea of paucity of seats,” the minister said.
