Hundreds of admission aspirants to Dhaka University continued their hunger strike on the Central Shaheed Minar premises for the second consecutive day on Thursday. Students from different colleges joined the programme.
The students claimed that at least nine students fell sick till Thursday evening. They said that they would continue their strike until DU authorities met their demand.
The students began the hunger strike on Wednesday afternoon to press home the withdrawal of the new rule restricted candidates from appearing in the tests more than once.
Before beginning of the hunger strike, they submitted a memorandum to the President, who is also the Chancellor of the university.
The Dhaka University authorities decided to allow only the HSC students to appear at its admission tests for a single term from the 2015-16 academic session.
The authorities, however, asked the striking students, who were agitating at the Shaheed Minar, to leave the area, saying legal action would be taken in this regard.
Meanwhile, Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossian and convener of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna expressed their solidarity with the agitated students.
They went to the Shaheed Minar on Thursday the noon and spoke at the gathering.
Protesting the decision of the DU authorities, Dr Kamal and Mahmudur Rahman Manna asked the authorities to withdraw the decision.
They said that the decision is contradictory to democracy.
