Business Desk :
Stern action will be taken against the millers who have not supplied rice to the government warehouses despite signing agreements, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar said on Saturday.
The minister came up with the warning at a view-exchange meeting with traders and officials of the Central Storage Depot (CSD) in Halishahar of Chattogram.
The millers who cooperate with the government and those who do not will not be evaluated in the same manner, Majumdar said.
Traders who have not supplied rice to the government’s silos despite the deal will be punished and they will not be able to sign any such agreement for the next one year, he said.
The government will ink new contracts with the non-compliant traders after a year.
“If they still do not provide rice to the government’s warehouses as per contracts, they would find it harder to keep their business running,” Majumdar warned.
