Acid throws on rape victim’s husband for protest

The husband of a rape victim came under acid attack in Noakhali’s Subarnachar on late Sunday night as he participated in a human chain in front of Noakhali Press Club to protest against the incident on his wife.
Injured Nasir Uddin, 45, of Char Bagga village in Subarnachar was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital with severe burn injuries, reports our Noakhali Correspondent, quoting victim’s family members.
There are over nine per cent burn injuries on his chest, hands and thigh, said the hospital’s Superintendent Dr Md Khalil Ullah.
Mother of Nasir claimed that her son took part in the human chain in Maijdi area of Noakhali city on Sunday morning and returned to his Subarnachar house a few hours later.
She said, at the end of the human chain, the accused in the rape case Joynal, Russell, Zakir, Farrukh, and Mannan threatened Nasir of severe consequence.
Later at night when he went outside the house for natural call, a group of miscreants hurled acid on Nasir in front of his house around 2:30am. Even after nine hours he did not regain consciousness.
Syed Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Charyapada Police Station said, he heard about the incident. But no complaint was filed regarding this till yesterday noon.
On May 2, Nasir filed a case with a court accusing one Joynal of blackmailing and raping his wife multiple times. Since then Nasir’s family and other witnesses in the case have been receiving threats, the victim’s family claimed.
