Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has begun an investigation into whether there had been any corruption in procuring the mosquito insecticides by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) centering the dengue outbreak alarmingly.
ACC has already collected relevant tender documents between 2015 and 2019. The findings of the investigation will be submitted to the commission, said a press release of the anti-graft body on Sunday.
The DNCC in previous year procured mosquito insecticide without carrying out an effective test on Aedes mosquitoes, the press release said holding the negligence responsible for the dengue outbreak across the country.
Earlier in the day, the ACC got an allegation through its hotline — 106 — that a syndicate is controlling the import of mosquito insecticides.
Based on the allegation, the ACC formed a team led by its Assistant Director Rashedul Islam, who has already begun a drive to find out the facts, the press release said.
It was found in previous years that the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) carried out test alone of the insecticides on culex mosquito.
On the basis of the result, the DNCC imported the medicine, said the ACC suggesting the DNCC to carry out the test of the insecticides on the Aedes mosquitoes before importing it.
For the last four years, the ACC found that ‘Limit Agro Products Limited’ has been supplying the mosquito insecticides to the DNCC. In January this year, DNCC gave work order to ‘Nicon Limited’ for importing the mosquito insecticides to prevent the outbreak of the dengue.
