The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken tougher actions against the bribery in the public sector by conducting 16 ‘trap’ cases in the last nine months.
On September 15, the anti-graft body arrested three unscrupulous government officials red handed with bribed money in three separate raids under the trap case mechanism in three districts – Dhaka, Narsingdi, and Tangail.
Introduction of the ACC hotline number 106 has added dynamism to this end as one of the trap case among the three was conducted after getting information of demanding bribery over the hotline.
The ACC’s newly formed armed unit with 20 police personnel is another move to strengthen the drive against corruption, especially bribery in the public sector.
On the day of getting 20 police personnel for its armed unit, the ACC conducted a drive under the trap case mechanism at Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) office in the city’s Mirpur area.
“The anti-graft body has once again started trap case system after getting allegations against government officials demanding bribes. And it has conducted 16 trap cases in the last nine months ” ACC Deputy Director (public relations) Pranab Bhattacharjee, reports BSS on Sunday.
“Under the trap case mechanism, we have carried out three drives in each of the months of September and July,” he said, adding, that the people are now getting inspiration to lodge complaints with ACC following the introduction of the ACC hotline.
Usually, the commission forms a trap committee after getting allegations of bribery and then conducts a drive to round up the corrupt officers and employees in line with the law.
The commission has already instructed the corruption prevention committees at upazila and district levels to take measures to make people aware so that they lodge complaints about any incident of bribery.
