Abrar murder Prosecution seeks exemplary punishment

The prosecution yesterday sought exemplary punishment for all the 25 accused in BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case.
During the closing arguments, Mosharraf Hossain Kajol, Chief Public Prosecutor (CPP) of the case, made the appeal to the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka on Sunday. Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the tribunal conducted the proceedings on Sunday.
Today (Monday) the prosecution is supposed to place submissions on different higher courts’
rulings in support of sentencing all the accused with capital punishment in the case.
During yesterday’s hearing, the 22 accused, who are now behind the bar, were produced in the court.
Three other accused, Mustaba Rafid, Muhammad Morshed-Uz-Zaman Mondol alias Jishan and Ehtashamul Rabbi Tanim, have been absconding since the incident.
Earlier, 46 prosecution witnesses, including the complainant of the case, testified in the tribunal.
On October 7 of 2019, Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), was beaten to death by a group of BUET unit’s Chhatra League men in a dormitory.
Abrar’s father Barkatullah filed the murder case in this connection with Chawkbazar Police Station on October 7 the same year.
Inspector Md Wahiduzaman of Detective Branch of police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka against 25 BUET students on November 13, 2019.
During the investigation, eight of the accused gave confessional statements to different Magistrate Courts on different dates.
On September 15 last year, the tribunal framed charges against the accused.
