Chandraganj thana police last night rescued an expatriate, after seven days of his abduction, from an abundant house in Choumohoni area under Begumganj upazila in Noakhali district.
The man was identified as Abdul Baten, an expatriate in Italy and son of late Abdur Rab of Deupara village in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur district.
Police said the abductor kidnapped Baten at a gun point from his village on December 28 and demanded Taka 60 lakh as ransom from the victim’s family.
Soon after the incident, the victim’s wife Tanvin Fatema lodged a case with Chandraganj thana.
On a tip-off, a team of police from Chandraganj thana raided the area and rescued Baten from the house, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayan Kabir.
Police also arrested an alleged abductor Asraf Ali in this connection.
