The 87th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa , wife of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed through a day- long programme in the city and elsewhere in the district on Tuesday .
The day’s programme began with placing wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Fazilatunnessa at the party offices.
Chittagong City, North and South District units of Awami League (AL) observed the day through holding discussion meeting, Milad and Doa Mahfils at the respective party offices. Leaders of Chittagong city AL paid tributes to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib by placing wreath at her portrait the at city’s Darul Fazal Market party office. Chittagong South District Mohila AL organized a discussion meeting at its Andarkilla office with its president Chemon Ara Taiub in the chair.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of Chittagong University Prof Dr Shirin Akhter, Chittagong South District AL president Muslem Uddin Ahmed and General Secretary Mofizur Rahman, among others, took part in the discussion.
Special discussion meetings on great lady were held in primary and secondary schools where teachers and students interacted on different aspects of the Begum Mujib, also mother of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
