First Mediation Summit held

International Mediation Summit was held on Thursday for the first time in the country. Professor Dr Mizanur Rahman, Former Chairman, Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh, inaugurated the summit in a hotel in the capital city.
Bangladesh International Mediation Society (BIMS) arranged the programme with the slogan of “Mediation- the path to peace and prosperity.”
Chairman of the Summit Convening Committee Air Commodore (LPR) M Obaidur Rahman delivered the welcome speech at the ceremony, while International Mediator K S Sarma conducted the ceremony.
Chairman of Bangladesh International Mediation Society Advocate Samarendra Nath Goswami, Head of Complaint and Dispute Resolution of Government of Combodia Hou Veasna, Accredited Mediator and Regional Director of Bangladesh International Mediation Society Iram Majid also delivered their speech in the event.
Advocate Haridas Pal, President of International Mediators Association Kevin Brown, Social Activist PV Rajagopal, UNO’s Trainer on Solidarity Jill Carr Harris and President of Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation Anil Xavier were also present in the ceremony.
Samarendra Nath Goswami said, “The Bangladesh International Mediation Society was established on May 31 in 2017. And within a year we have arranged an international summit and some other workshops. Our activities will start at the upazila level from June 1, 2018 by which the people of the mass-root level can get the idea of mediation. We hope it will help the people settle their disputes easily.”
More than three hundred delegates participated in the ceremony.
