Massive earthquake in Ctg: 8 buildings tilted in Port City, 2 declared high risky

Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has declared two buildings total risky after they tilted to one side in the Wednesday’s massive earthquake that jolted Bangladesh.A total of 8 buildings tilted in the port city on that day at about 8 pm.
A three-member CDA team led by its Chief Planner . Shahinul Islam Khan marked the two buildings with high risky after inspecting nine buildings on Thursday and ordered to demolish immediately.Khan told that a building located opposite to WASA and another three-storey building at Jubilee Road had been marked unsafe.
 He stated that a decision on the future course of action would be taken only after a team of experts visit those buildings on Sunday.
The earthquake measuring 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale was epicentred at 420 kilometres from capital Dhaka.Chittagong Bureau reported on Wednesday that five buildings, including a shopping centre were tilted. However, there was no report of any casualty.
 CDA chief Khan also said, “People concerned have been asked to submit the design of the buiildings, details of their builders and engineers by Sunday.”
After Wednesday’s night’s quake, there were reports of buildings being tilted at Jubilee Road, Nandankanan , Chandgaon residential area, Bariq Building area Katalgonj, Halishahar , sadarghat and Momin Road area.
The titled buildings include- 5-storied BS garments building a Barik building, 9-stories Muktijudda super market at Jubilee road, under construcing 11-storied building at Nandankanan, 6-storied building at chandgaon, 7-storied Anowar Manzil at Katalgonj, 7-storied building at Halishahar, Symphony garments building at Sadargat and Tytanic building of Monin road in city.An investigation team of Chittagong Development Authoirty afer survey in the city instantly directed to demolish 7-storied building in Halishahar and its adjoining 6-storied building . The decisions of the other buildings will be decided after submit of report jointly surveying with other govt agencies on Sunday , a sources said.
CDA chief planner Shahinul Islam said 7-storied building that tilted in Halishahar upon the adjoining another building and hence declared risky and to vacate the tenants immediately. Chief Planner said these titled buildings will be survey thoroughly by another committee if necessary and after submit of final report decisions will be finalized in next weeks.
