Bangladesh Coast Guard detained seven suspected pirates from Meghna river at Raipur upazila in Laxmipur district early Friday.
The detained persons are Akter Molla, Shafik Hawlader, Barek Shikder, Ismail Molla, Din Islam, Mukter Molla, and Akter Rari. They are the residents of Hijla area of Barishal district.
A team of coast guard conducted a drive in the river at early hours and detained them along with machetes, iron pipes and other lethal weapons.
Haidarganj camp coast guard contingent commander Md Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter at a press briefing.
They were later handed over to Raipur Police Station.
