Bangladesh Shikshak Samity
A discussion in observance of Education Day organised by Bangladesh Shikshak Samity was held at its central office in the city’s Topkhana Road on Monday. In the programme the speakers demanded nationalization of the secondary level education for eliminating disparity between government and non-government in education sector. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the samity Principal Abul Kashem, its Vice-Presidents Ranjit Kumar Saha, Principal Bazlur Rahman, its Joint General Secretary Principal Kawsar Ali Sheikh and its Cultural Affairs Secretary Hena Rani Roy. President of the organisation Muhammad Abu Bakar Siddique presided over the event.

Debate for Democracy
A national debate competition on ‘Legal control to make social media responsible’ organised by Debate for Democracy was held in the auditorium of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation in the city’s Tejgaon on Sunday. Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar was present as the chief guest in the inaugural programme. While speaking Jabbar said object of the Digital Security Act is not to control the social media rather the main purpose of the act is to control the digital crimes.”Digital security should be ensured by utilizing the technologies,” he added. “If the Digital Security Act is passed, the Section 57 of the ICT Act will be abolished. Students from 16 universities across the country will contest in the competition. In the inaugural competition, Jagannath University team defeated North South University team. Chairman of the organisation Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron presided over the event.
