Members of Coast Guard and police in a joint drive arrested seven human traffickers and rescued 40 illegal Malaysian passengers from Seradia coast near Saint Martin at about 10.00am today.
Coast guard and police also seized the mechanized boat. Among the 40 people 39 is Malaysian passengers and one Syed Alam is a human trafficker.
Syed Alam son of late Kamal uddin hails from Sonapara area of Ukhia upazila of the district.
In another drive, Detective Branch (DB) of police rescued six Malaysian passengers from Sonadia coast under Maheshkhali upazila of the district at about 2.00 pm today.
