Jamuna boat capsize: 6 relief seekers drown?

Six relief (VGF programme) receivers remained missing after a boat carrying them capsized in Jamuna river in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur on Wednesday night.
A rescue mission was temporarily put on hold due to inclement weather on Thursday afternoon when the six flood-affected men went missing.
The missing victims are Dulal, 30, Nayan, 8, Kanchan Bibi, 45, Akman Bibi, 65, Razia Begum, 45, Shikder, 4. All of them were from Char Halka at Chukaibari of Dewanganj upazila in Jamalpur district,
A total of 28 flood-affected people were returning home after receiving relief materials and they sank in the river near Futanibazar ghat with the boat heading for Halka char, our Jamalpur Correspondent reports quoting Mainul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Dewanganj Police Station.
Soon after the incident, divers of fire brigades with the help of local people rescued 17 people, the OC said.
Local people resumed the rescue operation and managed to rescue five more missing people from the river on Thursday. But six other people remained missing when the report was filed around 6:00pm.  
Local people said, the boat with 28 passengers capsized in the river near Tiner Char around 8pm due to large waves and strong wind.
Dewanganj Upazila NIrbahi Officer (UNO) Golam Mostafa said, the people on board were returning home with VGF rice from Chukaibari union.
