52 acres encroached CPA land in Laldiar Char recovered

Chattogram Port Authority is erecting a barbed wire fence as the unauthorised residents have peacefully left Laldia Char in Patenga of the port city. CPA conducted eviction drive in Laldiar char yesterday to evict the illegal occupiers from the port’s land.
Hundreds of port workers started erection bamboo fences on the side of the main road.
Residents started leaving their homes on their own initiative from morning. Many residents sold out furniture for a nominal price. Some are sitting helpless with luggage due to lack of rickshaws, vans and trucks.
The executive magistrate of the port, magistrate of the district administration, senior officials of the port have visited the char area of Laldia. A large number of RAB, police and Ansar members are patrolling the area.
A port official told media that mosques, primary schools and cemeteries would be kept out of the eviction. He said the port authorities have decided to carry out the eviction drive on 52 acres of land as per the verdict and directions of the high court. Earlier, the concerned people have been informed about the issue by issuing notices.
