One sentenced for giving proxy in HSC exam

A mobile court on Thursday evening sentenced one accused for giving proxy in HSC examination at Babuganj degree college center under Barisal district. The accused was identified as Shahin Dhali, 20, son of Rattan Dhali, from Chanpasha of Babuganj upazila. AKM Mizanur Rahman, Principal of the College and Secretary of the examination center, confirmed the report. He said Shahin was caught red- handed by the invigilator while he was giving proxy against Mizanur Rahman, a HSC examinee from Chanpasha BM Institution, in commercial geography examination of HSC on Thursday afternoon. Shahin was handed over to police immediately. Then a mobile court led by Afroza Begum Parul, upazila nirbahi officer of Babuganj, sentenced Shahin to two-year imprisonment. Shahin sent to Barisal jail after the verdict, court sources said.
Betel leaves worth Tk 1 cr seized in Benapole
BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized five truckloads of betel leaves worth Tk1. crore from Natunhat area on the Benapole-Jessore road here on Thursday night. Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of Jessore BGB-6, said being informed that five trucks carrying smuggled betel leaves were going to Dhaka, a team of the border guard conducted a drive in the area at night. They seized the trucks brought from India through the border area. Sensing the presence of BGB, the drivers and helpers fled away leaving behind the trucks. The seized goods were deposited to Jessore customs godown, reports UNB.
Child rescued while being trafficked to India in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police rescued a minor boy while he was being trafficked to India through Taluigaccha bordering area in Sadar upazila on Thursday evening. Imdadul Haq Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Mahasagar Kumar, son of Bibhash Kumar of Gobindapur village in Shyamnagar upazila, developed a relation with Matier Rahman of Kunduria village in Ashashuni upazila. Based on the relation, Mahasagar used to go to the house of Matier. On Thursday morning, Mahasagar picked up Munna Hossain, 6, son of Matier, alluring him with a new dress on his way back from school, and took him to the bordering area around 7 pm. At one stage when Munna sensing something unusual stated crying, local people challenged Mahasagar. Later, they rescued Munna and handed Mahasagar over to police, reports UNB..
Jhenaidah Ex BNP MP Shahidul Islam dead

Shahidul Islam alias Shaidul Master, 67, the ex law maker of Bangladesh nationalist Party (BNP) of Jhenaidah-3 constituency died at Gastro Liver Hospital at Panthapath in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon. (Inna lillahe…..Rajeeun). He left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter. He was under going treatment there. Moheshpur Upazila BNP secretary Mominur Rahman said, Shahidul has been suffering from liver serocis for past few months. He was provided treatment at Mount Elijabeth Hospital in Singapore. Retuning from Singapore, he was admitted to Gastro liver Hospial in Dhaka. Rafiqul Islam, a nephew of Shahidul Islam said, the body will arrive at his birth place at Bhalaipur village in Moheshpur on Friday. Later he will be buried at the family grave yard there. Shahidul Master was elected member of parliament with the BNP ticket in 1991, 1996 and 2003 from Jhenaidah-3 Moheshpur, Kotchandpur), Rafiqul said.
