At least 50 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at a market of the district town early yesterday.
The fire broke out from a shop in Monohari Potti around12:45amand engulfed the adjoining stationary and grocery shops, said Md Moktar Hossain, Superintendent of Police.
On information, five firefighting units rushed in and doused the fire around4:30amafter four hours of frantic efforts with the help of locals, police and the shop owners.
It is not clear yet what caused the fire, he said. No casualty was reported in this regard.
