Police arrested five leaders and activists of Swechchhasebak League (SL), volunteer front of the ruling Awami League, from Noymile area of Shajahanpur upazila on Friday on extortion charges.
The arrestees were identified as Manir,32, Manik,22, Masud,25, Based,28, and Shamim.
Officer-in-charge of Shajahanpur Police Station Alamgir Hossain said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the five Swechchhasebak League men when they went to the area for taking Tk20 lakh as toll from Wasim, manager of Multi Trade International, at about 5:00 pm.
