MEDIA reports on Wednesday said the government has removed the director of Institute of Public Health and director of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital – the first one for issuing a circular for Islamic dress code for men and women staff members in the services and the second one for involvement in financial irregularities related to procurement of hospital equipment. They have been attached to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and being replaced by other officers.
It sounds quite out of context and also beyond jurisdiction how the director of the Institute of Public Health could issue order for dress code asking female employees to wear hijab and men staffers to make sure their clothes don’t cover their ankle joint.
We are a Muslim majority nation but not an Islamic republic to demand Islamic dress code and moreover from staff members of a particular organization to risk multiple misgivings and consequential agitation. It was totally ill-conceived and we believe it was surely the brain work of a fanatic. In our view this action is also indicative of a dysfunctional government.
Sudden removal of the director of the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital shows incompetent whims and arbitrariness made the government ungovernable. The decision to punish anybody for corruption is so selective that punishing for corruption is laughable. There must be some other reasons.
What’re may be the reasons, nothing the government does have any constructive impact for the capacity to govern. The government is in a sick bed.
