At least five persons were killed and several others injured when a covered van hit a standing bus from behind at Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong early Saturday.
The accident took place at Khaiyachhara on the Dhaka-Chitatagong Highway around 5:30am, reported our Chittagong correspondent quoting highway police.
The tragedy occurred when a Dhaka-bound covered van rammed a bus o Shyamoli Paribahan, which was parked there, from behind leaving five dead on the spot and several injured others, Farid Uddin, local highway police outpost in-charge, told The New Nation.
He said, among the victims, he said four died on the spot. They were waiting there for another bus.
Three of the victims were identified as Syadur Rahman, 50, general manager of Karnaphuli Paper Mills, Khaliaur Rahman, 35, and Susmita Sen, 31.
On information, the highway police recovered the bodies and sent those to local hospital morgue.
Drivers of both the vehicles managed to flee the scene, police officer Farid Uddin said.
