5 Bangladeshis killed in Myanmar`s BGP firing

At least five Bangladesh citizens were killed and 20 others sustained bullet-hit in the firing of Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) on Wednesday morning.

The firing incident happened at around 11.am near Myanmar border and about 10 kilometers away from St. Martin`s Island.

BGP members opened fire on a Bangladesh trawler carrying over 311 people who were going to Malaysia illegally.

 A Mithun (Narisngdi) who was a passenger of the trawler confirmed the news to risingbd over mobile phone.

Mithun said, “BGP members fired upon the passengers of the trawler indiscriminately. Many passengers jumped into the Bay to escape from the firing”.

 On the other hand, Lt Kazi Harun-ur-Rashid, Coast Guard Station Commander in Teknaf, said he had heard the killing of several Bangladesh citizens in BGP firing.
