49,550 Yaba pills seized in separate drives

Law enforcers in separate drives seized 49,550 yaba pills in Chittagong on Wednesday.
In port city’s Karnaphuli area, Rab arrested a bus driver and his helper with 33,550 yaba tablets.
 The arrestees are Md Sukkur, 44 and Md Faruk, 29.
Sukkur is the driver and Faruk is the helper of a bus of Syamoli Paribahan, said Assistant Director Mimtanur Rahman of Rab-7 media wing. Rab also seized the bus.
Meanwhile, police recovered around 16,000 yaba pills from one Elias Hossen’s house at Pashcim Raipur of Anwara upazila, said Hafiz Uddin, sub-inspector of Anwara Police Station.
Sensing their presence, he fled the scene, the SI said. Police detained his mother for interrogation, he added.
Fugitive gets life for possessing phensedyl : A court in Chittagong on Wednesday sentenced a youth to life term rigorous imprisonment in a narcotics case filed with Kotwali Police Station over possession of 179 bottles of phensedyl.
The convict is Jahid Hossen Rubel, 20, son of Jamal Sarkar hailing from Debidar area of Comilla, said the court sources.
The court of Chittagong 4th District and Sessions Judge Md Shahadat Hossen Bhuiyan handed down the verdict after the court found him guilty, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Ajoy Bosh Rinku.
The court also fined the convict Tk 1,000, in default, to suffer one more month in jail, said the PP.
In addition, the court awarded him one-year jail term and fined him TK 500, in default, to suffer 15-day jail for carrying two kilograms of hemp.
PP said the convict is on the run after he walked out of jail on bail in November 19, 2012.
According to the case statement, Rubel was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in possession with the phensedyl and hemp from Chittagong Railway Station on February 2, 2011.
Later, Mansur Ahmed, deputy assistant director (DAD) of Rab-7, filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against Rubel.
