At least four members of a family received burn injuries when a fire broke out in a shanty of Korail slum in the city’s Mohakhali area on Wednesday night.
The injured persons were identified as Kadbanu, 42, her two daughters Sima Akhter, 20, Iti Akhter, 16, and her son Hanif, 12, Fire Service sources said.
Quoting the locals, Fire Service and Civil Defense’s Duty Officer Ataur Rahman said that the fire originated from a gas cylinder in a house and it engulfed the entire shanty around 11:30pm, leaving them severely injured. The local people rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire before spreading to the adjacent shanties around 12:45pm on the fateful night.
The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) instantly in a critical condition, the fireman said.
The estimate loss from the fire could not be known immediately, he added.
