Police arrested at least four persons, including main accused and union parishad chairman, in separate drives from Sadar upazila of Chapainawabganj on Thursday night on the charge of their involvement in severing the wrists of an youth over previous enmity.
They have been identified as Foyez Ahmed, 35, main accused and Chairman of Ujirpur Union Parishad in Shibganj upazila, Tareq Ahmed, 35, Jahangir Alam,35, and Alauddin,35.
Chapainawabganj Police Super TM Mujahidul Islam said that a team of police conducted separate drives in the Amnura area of the upazila last night and arrested them.
Earlier, on Wednesday, miscreants severed the wrists of Romel Hossain, 28, at Ujirpur in Shibganj upazila.
Abdus Salam, uncle of the victim and a local Awami League leader, said that Romel and UP Chairman Foyez had been at loggerheads for long over establishing supremacy in ferry ghat area.
Family sources said when Romel and his two friends were returning home, a group of people abducted him near Ujirpur Beribadh and asked him to meet Ujirpur UP Chairman Foyez.
As he went to the chairman’s office, his hired goons blindfolded him and severed his wrists of both hands and left him near the Beribadh area, they alleged.
On information, family members rescued him and took him to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital.
